Bear Bites: Mr. Green Bubble

Mr. Green Bubble is a lively boba cafe in downtown Menlo Park. Visitors may recognize the brand from the Asian Culture Club’s boba sales. A short walk from campus, Green Bubble is the perfect place for a snack after class or to hang out with friends over the weekend. Beyond selling boba milk tea, Green Bubble also offers delicious deep-fried snacks, desserts, and rice bowls.

Popcorn Chicken: 9/10

Green Bubble’s famous popcorn chicken is their most popular snack on the menu. It’s delightfully crispy and flavorful, 100% worthy of this status. With six different spice levels, the chicken can be completely mild or eye-wateringly spicy. The fried basil topping is a highlight, but the amount is inconsistent. However, you can request extra for an additional cost. Be careful closing the box though—you don’t want your crispy chicken to get soggy!

Mango Smoothie with Lychee Jelly: 10/10

Green Bubble’s smoothie and slushie options are ideal for when you want a drink without caffeine. With 10 base flavors, the ability to mix two flavors, and multiple add-ins, there are endless combinations. The mango paired with lychee jelly at 50% sweetness has a subtle fruity flavor cut through with the sweetness and smooth texture of jelly. One of the best items on the menu, with lychee smoothie with mango jelly being a close second.

Unagi Bowl: 8/10

The perfect lunch for picky eaters, Green Bubble’s Unagi Bowl comes with rice, tenderly cooked unagi, a sweet sauce, and a cold seaweed salad that balances out the flavor. Being sweet and simple, the Unagi Bowl is certainly my favorite meal out of Green Bubble’s rice bowls, with extra refills on the seaweed salad.

Sesame Balls: 9/10

The delicious, savory sesame balls are the perfect way to end a meal. Wonderfully crisp on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, and filled with just the right amount of red bean paste, these deep fried balls of dough are a great treat to share with friends or eat alone—though a savory dessert might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Jasmine Boba Milk Tea: 9/10

One of the four classic milk teas, this flavor is easily a fan favorite. It’s a great one to start with for those wanting to branch out beyond simple house milk tea. With its subtle flavor and gentle caffeine buzz, the Jasmine tea is perfectly paired with another snack for a sweet $1.50 off. If you’re feeling adventurous, try switching out the standard boba for Lychee Jelly. It’s perfect chilled on a hot summer afternoon or hot on a cool autumn evening.

Green Bubble deserves its reputation as a reliable boba shop and a fan favorite for students. After a long day at school, you can find me ordering a mango smoothie with an unagi bowl and sesame balls at Green Bubble.
