M-A has many new teachers on campus this year who are all ready to bring energy and optimism to the classroom. Get to know five of these new members of our community as they share a little bit about themselves.
Agnes Bautista
English Language Development 2, English Language Arts 2, Multicultural Literature and Voice
Bay Area native Agnes Bautista is a new freshman and sophomore English teacher. She is an alumni of the University of San Francisco (USF), where she studied English Literature with a minor in Philippine Studies. She then obtained her master’s at USF and decided to stay in the city to teach in the San Francisco Unified School District. “I’m happy here in this district. Everyone here is really warm and welcoming,” Bautista said. She is excited to get to know her students, help improve their writing skills, and hopefully pass down her love of English to her classes. Paola Nieto
Geometry and Algebra I
Math teacher Paola Nieto grew up in Redwood City, so she already considers M-A a part of her community. “I really want to give back to the community that raised me to be the person I am today,” she said. Nieto attended CSU East Bay where she studied mathematics. She is excited for the year to come and ready to show some school spirit. You can find her in G-22!
Adam Reitman
Algebra I and Integrated Math
Adam Reitman, a Sacramento State alum, first started his teaching career intending to work for an elementary school. He wound up teaching at multiple different middle schools, but always “wanted the experience of being able to see what high school was like.” Now at M-A, Reitman will be teaching Algebra I and Integrated Math. He noted that teaching middle school was more exhausting than teaching high school: “High schoolers are mature, you guys are borderline grown ups,” he said.
Overall, Reitman’s experience at M-A so far has been overwhelmingly positive. “There’s a lot that M-A provides for students,” he said. “I also think it’s very diverse, both ethnically and socioeconomically. Hopefully that’s positive, that we’re bringing everyone together and not just separating.” Outside of teaching, Reitman loves to watch sports, play board games, and take long walks on the beach with his family. Tatiana Martino
Study Skills
Originally from San Carlos, Tatiana Martino attended Conwan High School in Belmont and Northwestern State University in Louisiana, where she studied kinesiology. Martino received her master’s and teaching credential at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont.
So far, Martino said she has really enjoyed her time at M-A. “I really like that the student body is very diverse, and I’m also looking forward to some of our sports games,” she said. As an Argentinian, she loves “all types of soccer—both men’s and women’s.” Beyond her love for soccer, Martino was also an athlete herself—she played water polo in college. Marcus Kevorkyan
AP World History and US History
Marcus Kevorkyan is a San Diego local and UC Santa Cruz alumni. He received his Master’s in Education from Stanford. Kevorkyan came to M-A from Summit Charter School, which has only around 400 students. There, he dedicated four years to the same group of students through a mentor program. “M-A has been a really positive experience so far and is very different,” Kevorkyan said. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, backpacking, and generally spending time outdoors.
