Track and Field Team Race to Success at Third PAL Meet

M-A’s track and field team raced in their third PAL meet against Aragon and Carlmont on Wednesday afternoon.

On the girls end, the team was led by senior Sara Nordlund, who delivered a standout performance at the meet, finishing first place in the 200M, 400M, and the 100M hurdles. She wasn’t the only Bear to have great success, with freshman Caroline Pflaum setting a new personal record and ending first in the girls’ 800M, followed by senior Claire Gong and junior Lousia Pflaum, who ended in 5th and 6th place, respectively.

“It’s fun to be on our own track, and everyone is running super fast today. It’s cool to see us in our element,” Pflaum said.

Pflaum finishes first.

Senior Alexander Petry finished first in both the 100M and the 200M. Junior Kentaro Wuertele also finished first in the 3200M race. Additionally, junior Thomas Bernadicou fell four seconds short of first place and finished 3rd.

Despite this, not many boys runners found the finish line in time. The 800M had 11 M-A runners, and none made the podium. Additionally, the Bears finished last in the 4x100M relay due to a baton drop in the middle of the race.

“My 800 wasn’t great, but we can work on it and hope our team gets to the state meet, or as close as we can,” junior Aidan Sharp said.

Runners race to first place during the 800M.

“I’m hoping more of us make it to CCS, or even state,” Nordlund said. “I also hope we have more opportunities for our team to run and show off our skills, we haven’t had many meets, and hopefully we’ll have good outcomes in the future meets.”

The Bears will return to the track on April 23 at home against Hillsdale and Westmoor at 3 p.m.
