Leadership students greeted M-A’s newest class in Ayers Gym for Freshman Orientation on Tuesday.
The orientation kicked off with the dance team performing an energetic routine to hype up the freshmen. After Leadership students gave out M-A merchandise, they instructed students to their designated groups for tours around campus. “The change from middle school to high school is tremendous, and I think it’s important to help these students adapt,” junior Alexa Habibi, an organizer of Freshman Orientation, said.
Freshman orientation provides a day for the new students to ask questions, explore the campus, and understand the vast resources that M-A has. “As a freshman, I went into M-A blind and tried my best. But sometimes that’s not enough and you need more help, so I think that they need to know about the resources that we have,” senior Viet-Tran Do said.
Each group of freshmen started at different stations, ranging from taking their ID pictures in the gym to listening to slideshows presented by Leadership students. “They explained where to find stuff, we got our schedules, and the people who were showing us around were really nice,” freshman Eowyn Van Rechem said.
Freshmen also got the opportunity to look around the B-Wing, which provides resources such as the Peace and Wellness Center, Leadership, and the library.
The day ended with the freshmen gathering around the Bear as they enjoyed their free Otter Pops while talking to friends and new classmates.

“My favorite part was when we walked in and all the Leadership students were cheering us on and giving us high fives,” freshman Matias Lara said.
“A piece of advice for freshmen is to take risks. High school is all about change and growth, learning to put yourself out there is really important,” Habibi said.
