Despite strong effort, the girls golf team had a tough loss to the Carlmont Scots, 269-233, at the Stanford golf course on Thursday.
Junior Linh Nguyen got the best score for the Bears, scoring lower than her opponent by 1 point. “Although the first few holes were pretty difficult, as always, we ended on a strong note,” L. Nguyen said.

Junior Cleo Benrey ended with 56 strokes and said she was mostly satisfied with it, despite having a rocky start on the first hole. “I got an eight on the first hole, which really threw me off,” Benrey said. “I’m happy with my score though. I’m glad I didn’t get above 60.”
Freshmen Savannah Lee, Hadley Collins, and Sofia Nguyen finished their matches with 45 strokes, 64 strokes, and 59 strokes, respectively. In hole four, S. Nguyen managed to escape a sand bunker, setting herself up for an approach to the green.

After the match, L. Nguyen reflected on the psychological side of the sport. “It’s a very mental sport; it’s not physically demanding, but being able to come back after shooting badly or messing up is difficult,” L. Nguyen said.
“The golf team is pretty fun because all the girls are really nice. It’s a very social sport, and it’s a very friendly relationship, even between us and the opponents,” L. Nguyen said.
The Bears will return to the course at Poplar Creek to play the Aragon Dons on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
