“My favorite class that I’ve taken at M-A has to be my AP Biology class with Mr. Roisen, he’s just such a lovely teacher,” senior Indra Gerard said.

“The class is so engaging and has great course content. It’s a lecture-based class, and [Roisen] is so engaging with jokes, tangents, and stories. You can’t help but pay attention and enjoy the class,” he said.

“My favorite class was probably cooking last year, because I learned how to cook a lot of food that I cook every day now,” senior Nelson Dominguez said.

“We made pasta and pizza, and right now I’m on a bulk so I eat all of that daily,” he said.

“I would say my APES [AP Environmental Science] class last year. I had a lot of friends in that class—I feel like I made a lot of new connections, and it was just a very interesting and captivating class,” senior Luke Carmel said.

“We did a lot of cool activities. One of them that I remember the best is the cookie lab. You would mine a cookie and mine out chocolate chips,” Carmel said.

“My favorite class should be Ceramics,” senior Queenie Hsieh said. Hsieh is currently enrolled in Ceramics 1, and is working on a Gintama anime inspired stationery holder.

“You have a lot of control over creative design, and what you want to do,” she said.

Senior Genesis Gurrola’s favorite class is AP Literature with Ms. Choe. “Ms. Choe is very outgoing with her jokes and stuff like that. I love how she calls people out; we all find it funny. In some way, we all know she’s trying to be snarky with us,” Gurriola said.

“She’s like, roasting us, but it’s funny,” she said.

Senior Samantha Richman has been in the Leadership class for four years. “Being involved since day one like that has been a really amazing honor,” Richman said.

“[Leadership] challenges me to think in ways that other classes don’t, and I really like that unique aspect of it,” she said.

Julianne Hanson / M-A Chronicle Cubby Derrough poses for a photo.

“It’s a tie between Mrs. Donaldson’s AP Computer Science Java class and my current English class, which is AP Literature with Ms. Otsuka,” senior Cubby Derrough said.

“The teachers made it really fun and interactive, and when I needed help, they’re always willing to help me. I can express myself a lot more in those classes,” he said.

Julianne is a sophomore in her first year of journalism. She is excited to write about news stories, as well as exploring current topics in Menlo Park’s politics. In her free time she enjoys mountain biking and playing tennis.
