Little Sky Kitchen Brings Cafe and Asian Foods to the Counter

Located on El Camino Real, Little Sky Kitchen is a relaxing and botanical restaurant. Its selection includes pastries, sandwiches, and, surprisingly, Asian foods, making it the perfect place to wind down.

Pork and Daikon Bao ($6.50): 7/10

Andrew Li / M-A Chronicle

Served warm, this pork and daikon bun makes a soft, savory snack.  The outside of the bun is delicate and doesn’t have any soggy or burnt textures.  The meat and daikon filling has a salty taste with a strong, savory meat flavor. Although the taste is delightful, the daikon comes in big chunks that don’t compliment the texture of the bun. At first glance, the redness of the meat inside the bun may cause many people to think it’s undercooked or raw, even though it is actually cooked. Despite these drawbacks, the overall size of the bun makes it a good value for its price.

Pork and Shrimp Mando ($13.50): 3/10

The pork and shrimp mando was quite a letdown. The first bite reveals that the bun consists mostly of bread, leaving very little room for the filling. On top of that, the pork and shrimp mando doesn’t live up to its name, as the filling consists mostly of scallions, meat, and only a few pieces of shrimp. The dumpling is also far too expensive for its size. Although the taste itself was enjoyable, it lacks its supposed meat and shrimp flavors.

Ham and Cheese Sandwich ($18): 7/10

This ham and cheese sandwich, made of Italian ham and vintage cheddar cheese on a baguette is a great combination of savory and healthy. However, the baguette can be pretty hard to bite down on. The sandwich also comes with a small side salad that gives it a healthy touch. It may be a bit expensive, but overall it makes for a good-tasting lunch.

Double Choc Cookie ($6): 10/10

The loaded double choc cookie is a hit for chocolate lovers. With every bite, the cookie delivers a rich chocolate flavor that is baked to perfection on both the outside and inside. It’s everything you expect out of a cookie, and you finish it before you even realise. Additionally, the price is reasonable for the cookie’s size, making it a great sweet treat.

Cheese and Scallion Croissant ($6): 8/10

The cheese and scallion croissant does not disappoint, with both the classic croissant flaky texture and just the right amount of cheese and scallion flavor, it is neither salty nor plain. The cheese also adds a nice crunch that complements the overall texture of the croissant perfectly. Even though it’s expensive, the size of the croissant quickly overshadows the price, making it perfect for either a quick breakfast, or a midday snack.
