Homecoming Rally Breaks Ground With Construction Theme

The Bears came dressed in construction gear for the annual Homecoming Rally in Ayers Gym on Friday. Student band Goat Rodeo played a mix of funk and rock music as students entered the gym, and the rally started with a bold rendition of the national anthem by senior Matthew Teeple on electric guitar.

The event was the last day of the Homecoming spirit week, designed to engage the M-A community before the exciting weekend. Keeping with the theme, the games began with a caution tape-wrapping contest with volunteers from each grade.

The cheer team kicked off group performances with a spirited routine, followed by a balloon-popping game with student club members. The rally also featured a performance by the Pacific Islander Club and a teacher dance. In the final contest, students from M-A sports teams participated in a lighthearted relay. The dance team ended the rally on a high note with a lively performance.

Senior Isabelle Habibi, an announcer at the rally, appreciated the energy of the rally. “My favorite part of the rally is seeing all the grades come together, cheering super loudly and getting super hyped,” she said.

Habibi said strong school spirit is what makes M-A rallies so special. “This year, I think it’s especially important that we get super hyped because our football games are away, and I think this rally helped us be prepared to show up tonight at the homecoming game,” she said.

Freshman Austin McBride enjoyed watching the rally for the first time. “I really liked the Tonga dance,” he said. He also enjoyed the tape-wrapping contest at the beginning of the event.

The Homecoming football game took place at Sequoia High School on Friday night, and the Homecoming dance took place at M-A on Saturday night.
