Girls Volleyball Clinches NorCal Title

The Bears volleyball team swept first-seeded Monte Vista High School (Danville) in Northern California Regional Championships this evening, winning three sets in a row. M-A will travel to the California State Championship Finals at Santiago Canyon College in Orange County this Saturday.

The Bears controlled the match from the outset, winning the first set 25-23. Despite trailing in the second set 6-1, the Bears won it 25-17, entering the third and final set on a strong note. The team finished out the game, winning the last set 25-18.

Notable players were Pacific Athletic League (PAL) Most Valuable Player junior Jacqueline Disanto, and PAL second team All-League senior Leanna Collins, who is committed to UCSD for volleyball.

Collins reflected, “I’m so proud of every single girl on the team. We came out and played like a single unit, which allowed us to take that match in three sets. This season has been so incredible and going all out at the state championships this weekend will be the perfect way to end my senior season with this amazing group of girls.”

This is the second M-A team to clinch the Northern California Regional Championship title in history. The first team to do so was the M-A boys basketball team in 1989.

Stay tuned as we cover the Bears’ match in Orange County this Saturday!
