Girls Varsity Volleyball Suffers Tough Loss at State Finals

M-A’s varsity girls volleyball team made history on December 5, as the team traveled south to Santiago Canyon College in Orange County for state finals. The Bears matched up against Redondo Union High School from Redondo Beach.

The Bears battled through three well-fought sets, but ultimately came up short. Redondo Union won all three sets, 16-25, 18-25, and 15-25.

Throughout the match, the Bears still held their own by carrying out impressive plays. Senior Courtney Foliaki, junior Eliza Grover, and sophomore Lauren Heller each made numerous blocks. Seniors Leanna Collins, Foliaki, and junior Jacqueline DiSanto led the Bears offensively with multiple kills each from outstanding sets from junior Kirby Knapp. Junior liberos Kiana Sales, Alexa Roumeliotis, and senior Shauna Sabet maintained a solid passing and digging game throughout the match.

Despite the tough loss, the Bears made M-A history by winning NorCal Championships and placing second overall in California.
