Leadership hosted its third annual Corn Day on the Green at lunch on Thursday. The event featured upbeat music, corn-themed decorations, and an irresistible variety of corn-related foods.
Excitement for the event started early with Leadership posting a reel on their Instagram the day before, featuring students sharing their best jokes in a corny joke competition. “We made the reel on Monday to bring spirits up and also get the word out about Corn Day,” senior Kaitlyn Harding, the committee head for Corn Day, said.
During lunch, many students gathered around the food stands offering a mouth-watering array of snacks, including corn dogs, fries, cotton candy, a bake sale, and esquites. “I just got here, and it already looks like a lot of fun and the corn dogs are great,” freshman Evan Bartow said.
Out on the blacktop, three ice cream trucks sold ice cream and shaved ice to surrounding students looking for a refreshing treat.

Many teachers and students came dressed up in corn-themed and corn-colored clothing. “Teachers and students are dressing up and coming together to enjoy some good food, good music, and everything corn,” Harding said.
In the middle of the Green, students also played rounds of corn hole and Jenga, adding some fun competition to the lunch period.

Harding has been in charge of Corn Day since it’s come to M-A and it’ll be one of her last big events before graduation. She reflected on her years heading the Corn Day committee and was proud of how the committee carried out the event this year. “I love the spirit that we have, I love that it brings so many people together,” she said.
“Corn Day is an amazing celebration full of fun,” English teacher Susie Choe said. “I love that we can come together to celebrate something as silly and meaningful as corn.”
