Boys Lacrosse Takes Down Mountain View on Senior Night

The boys lacrosse team honored their seniors on senior night with a win over the Mountain View Spartans 6-3 on Tuesday.

Senior faceoff Eric Torre got the game rolling for the Bears, quickly securing the ball. The Bears were searching for a hole in the defense, and just two minutes into the quarter, senior midfielder Spencer Cadigan dashed passed his defender and bounced the ball into the goal, putting M-A up 1-0.

The Bears were continuously maintaining possession, keeping the ball out of the Spartans hands. This allowed them to control the entire start of the game, however, they weren’t able to land any of their shots.

With a minute left in the quarter, Mountain View got their first possession of the game and quickly got past the Bears defense, evening the score at 1-1.

In the second quarter, the Bears still managed to hold possession for the majority of the clock, but they weren’t able to find any open shots due to overwhelming defensive pressure from the Spartans.

With 40 seconds left in the half, the Spartans pushed downfield looking to capitalize on an M-A turnover. Despite this, the Bears defense forced a turnover themselves and launched a quick counterattack, but the shot went high, leaving the score tied 1-1 at halftime.

Eager to score, senior attacker Jonas Roodman slipped his way towards the front of the goal, finding an open shot and burying it into the back of the net, giving the Bears a 2-1 lead.

With eight minutes left in the third quarter, junior attacker Bruno Szollar gave the Bears some more distance, getting a goal by cutting into the dismantled Spartans defense to make it 3-1. Following this, Cadigan blasted downfield and scored his second point of the game.

Not even 30 seconds later, it would be senior attacker Colin Kryger to hook a shot into the top right corner of the goal, extending M-A’s lead to 5-1.

Adding on to the scoring frenzy was Torre after he got a goal with a minute left in the third quarter, creating an even bigger gap, 6-1, in favor of M-A.

At four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Spartans finally got their scoring back, getting past the Bears defense to convert for a point, putting the score 6-2 Bears. After gaining some momentum, the Spartans were able to force a turnover and march down the field to get the last goal of the game, 6-3, with less than a minute remaining.

Once the clock hit zero, the game would end with the Bears beating the Spartans in a defiant 6-3 victory on senior night.

“The seniors mean a lot for our team,” junior attacker Carey Wolf said, “They do so much for the program.”

The Bears finished their season 12-2, and their next game is to be determined as they await CCS seeding.
