Flippin’ Fun With Dawg Day

Leadership’s second annual Dawg Day was a sizzling success that brought students together with hot dogs and dog-themed music to wind down from a busy week. On the blacktop, students rocked their favorite sandals, fashioned themselves in “BBQ Dad” attire, and indulged in three dollar hot dogs, chips, and Gatorade.

“This is the second year this event has happened,” senior and Leadership student Kaitlyn Harding said. “It started off with last year’s senior Derick Kennedy because he wore flip flops every single day, so that became Dawg Day.”

The event wasn’t just about celebrating footwear. It was also about bringing the school together. “It’s just a simple themed-day event, but it really brings the school together with food. It’s just a day that everyone can enjoy for no reason,” Harding said.

For many, the best part of Dawg Day was simply being able to relax and have fun with their friends. “This event is really cool, the hot dogs are great, and I love the funny music,” freshman Mateo Dinan said.

The idea of Dawg Day is simple, but not plain. “Everyone has a pair of flip flops laying around, and it’s an easy thing to dress up for and it’s so much fun. We got to bring events to the blacktop, which you don’t normally get to do, so it’s really special to get this new crowd of people,” junior and Leadership student Samantha Richman said.

More Leadership events are on the horizon, like Rodeo Week from September 30 to October 4, Pumpkin Patch Day on October 28, and Trick or Treat Street on October 30.
