Girls Tennis Suffer Defeat Against Burlingame Panthers

The girls tennis team suffered a tough loss against the Burlingame Panthers on Wednesday evening, with a final score of 6-1.

Senior and number one singles player *Tessa Ellingson was the first to finish her match, dominating with a 6-1 victory in both sets.

Junior Hailey Hintze, singles three, came off the court next and fell 6-2, 6-3. Doubles one team junior Queenie Hseih and senior Holly Cheung were next, losing 6-3, 6-3.

Doubles three was a newly partnered duo, with sophomore Julia Maggio and senior Sophia Jobst teaming up for the first time. The pair walked off the court with satisfaction despite their 6-0, 6-4 loss. “It was definitely interesting playing with each other since we had never played before,” said Maggio. “I feel like Sophia and I definitely improved over the course of the match.”

The next to finish was doubles two team juniors *Parmis Hoghooghi and Acacia Yoon with a close 6-4, 6-3 loss. “I feel like we tried our best. I wasn’t really expecting too much, so I’m happy with how we played,” said Yoon. Like Maggio and Jobst, this was Hoghooghi and Yoon’s first time playing together. “I thought we had a really good bond and energy together. Even though we lost, I think it was still a win to us because of how we felt on the court,” said Hoghooghi.

The Bears suffered two more losses against the Panthers. Singles three and freshman Adeleine Soltys ended with the final score of 6-2, 6-4. “I’m quite bummed because I think I could have won, but I think overall the team and myself played really well,” said Soltys.

Sophomore Marissa Hou played at singles two in the last match of the evening. Despite battling hard, Hou ultimately fell 6-2, 6-1.

Even though the Bears suffered a tough loss to Burlingame, they aim to finish the season strong and dominate the courts in the final stretch.

The Bears will return to home court on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. to take on the Aragon Dons.
