How Old Is Too Old to Trick or Treat?

For many, Halloween is a long-awaited celebration of creativity, costumes, candy, and childhood nostalgia. From nostalgic seniors to spirited freshman, M-A students share their takes on how old is too old to join in the fun.

Luke Carmel

Senior Luke Carmel believes that trick-or-treating should end at age 17. “You’re getting close to being an adult, so time to wrap it up,” Carmel said. Carmel will not be trick-or-treating this year for the first time since he was a little, but will be attending a Halloween party instead.

Uriah Segura

Sophomore Uriah Segura believes that trick-or-treating should end at age 20. “You’re out of your teenage years,” Segura said.

Nora Scheible

Freshman Nora Scheible thinks eighth grade is the perfect time to stop trick-or-treating. “If you want to go later than that, it’s fine, but people might get mad at you—parents and stuff,” she said.

Maverick Titley

Junior Maverick Titley thinks 14 is the age to stop trick-or-treating. “I think once you get into high school, you should just leave that for the younger kids,” Titley said. Titley stopped trick-or-treating at 13 because it was no longer a priority for him.

Karla Carlos

Sophomore Karla Carlos supports for trick-or-treating with no age limit. “I don’t think there’s an age limit because some people, like their parents, don’t let them until they’re older, so I guess there’s not really an age,” she said.

Hudson Pfaff

Freshman Hudson Pfaff believes trick-or-treating should end during junior year. He enjoys the creativity and humor that Halloween brings. “I think seeing everybody being silly and in silly costumes [is my favorite part of Halloween],” Pfaff said.

Sam Stephens

Campus Aid Sam Stephens thinks 14 is the age at which trick-or-treating should end. “To a point, I say 14, then start taking some other kids and let them be,” Stephens said. Stephens reminiced about how much fun Halloween was back in the day, when he used to make costumes out of pillowcases and paper bags. “It was great, I mean, looking back, it was great,” he said.
