JIVES Fair Brings Opportunity and Liveliness to M-A

Students flocked to the Green on Wednesday during lunch to explore volunteer, athletic, and class opportunities offered at M-A and in the local community as part of Leadership’s annual Jobs, Internships, Vocational, Electives, and Sports (JIVES) Fair. With feel-good music blasting, colorful decorations, and delicious candy handouts, students were attracted to the engaging atmosphere the event offered.

Many participants noted the enjoyment of watching different communities come together to showcase student opportunities. Sophomore Zak Rasmussen explained that the event helped him become aware of future paths he would consider taking. “It’s really interesting to see everything going on, it really helps me set out plans for my future,” Rasmussen said. Throughout the Green, students rushed to interact with representative student groups from Alan Eaton’s Latin Club, James Bohac’s AP Physics, and volunteer and internship opportunities with the Ecumenical Hunger Program (EHP).

In addition to on-campus opportunities, various students explored organizations beyond M-A. EHP representative Kimmy Jackson expressed her pleasure in watching students discover their passions at the fair. “I love that it gives kids opportunities to see other organizations to see the need in their community, and that’s good for them,” Jackson said. “And people do need help, whether it’s money or time. Serve the people.”

Participants also appreciated the enthusiasm that JIVES created in many students. “It’s really great to introduce students to something that they may be really interested in,” junior Aarushi Srivastava said.

This event also helped students explore and solidify possible future career fields. For junior Sophia Silver, the food volunteering exhibits at JIVES inspired her to support others. “I love the way food can help you connect with others, and this helped me realize I could make a real change in someone’s life by sharing good food,” Silver said. “My passion for helping others with delectable treats will forever be attributed to this fair.”

Overall, JIVES was successful in helping students discover new passions, career interests, and consider several possible paths for their futures. Many attendees enjoyed simply witnessing the collaboration of various communities and organizations. Ultimately, JIVES introduced students to a wide spectrum of passions and opportunities, bringing them a step closer to their futures.
