M-A students are lucky to attend a high school surrounded by amazing local libraries with wonderful resources and events for teens. Here’s a run-down of M-A’s nearby libraries, and their upcoming events worth checking out:
Menlo Park Library: The Menlo Park Library is just a quick walk from M-A. It serves the entire M-A community and offers unique, teen-specific events.
- Fridays, 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.: Teen Film Fridays in April and May.
- Monday, May 13, 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.: Mark your calendars for a Meditative Banig Drawing Workshop in honor of Mental Health Month and Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month. You will practice recreating classic Filipino line patterns.
- Wednesday, May 15, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.: Asian American Storytopia in recognition of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Storytellers will perform “Asian folktales and poignant personal tales.”
Atherton Library: If you haven’t checked out the Atherton Library, it’s a vibrant, contemporary workplace, typically buzzing with M-A students. Mademoiselle Colette, its built-in cafe, serves as a convenient means for study break snacks.
- Tuesdays, 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Check out “Try it Tuesday in the Makerspace” to work with all kinds of technology and equipment.
- Sunday, April 28, 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Check out the Anime and Video Game Concert
- Weekdays: Power Up Afternoons, which offer events ranging from Chess Club, Arts & Crafts projects like watercolors and paper art, and a science afternoon.
East Palo Alto Library: The East Palo Alto Library is as dynamic as the multicultural community it serves. Its quiet spaces and array of seating make it a great place to study after school and on the weekends. It also has a steady calendar of events for teens.
- Weekdays, 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Power Up Afternoons focused on Arts & Crafts activities for teens.
- Sunday, May 12,12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Mark your calendars for a Ukulele Island Jam in honor of AAPI Heritage Month where you can learn basic ukulele skills.
All three libraries have something fun to do this spring, no matter your interests. They are also great options for quiet places to read, do homework, and study!
