M-A Girls Varsity Basketball Team Fights Hard at Open CCS Semifinals

This Tuesday evening, the girls varsity basketball team lost at Open CCS Semifinals, 46-47. The Bears fought hard, but were unable to defeat Los Gatos High School.

_DSC1211Both teams came out strong in the first quarter, with the Bears trailing the Los Gatos Wildcats, 12-15. In the second quarter the Bears struggled to complete shots and Los Gatos gained a larger lead, securing a 10 point lead on the Bears.

The Bears picked up the pace and intensity of the game in the second half. Offensive leaders for the Bears included junior Ilana Baer with 13 points, sophomore Carly McLanahan with 11 points, and sophomore Greer Hoyem with 13 points._DSC1204

The Bears entered the fourth quarter with momentum to topple Los Gatos. Greer and and junior Ofa Sili were diligent in grabbing the rebounds and the Bears strengthened their defense. The Bears were able to score effectively in the final minutes of the game and trailed Los Gatos, 46-47.

_DSC1227With three seconds on the clock, the Bears called a time out. Once back on the court, freshman Mele Kailahi received the ball and successfully made a three pointer. Heartbreakingly, the buzzer rang right before Kailahi shot the ball and the game ended, 46-47.

The Lady Bears fought persistently at the Open CCS Semifinals and wrapped up a phenomenal CCS round. The Bears will continue onto Northen California Championships next week.
