Community members showcased floral designs and artistic creativity at the Atherton Library as they participated in a Mooncake Sticker Making Workshop on Wednesday afternoon. The event celebrated the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, a harvest festival on Oct. 6, allowing attendees to learn and celebrate Chinese culture.
Designer, illustrator, and former art teacher Jane Li led the workshop, instructing participants on creating their own mooncake-inspired stickers. Participants had the option to choose from a variety of sticker paper, plastered with different floral designs, vibrant colors, and intricate shapes. “Even though I was concerned that adults may find the workshop too basic, people really enjoyed the simplicity,” Li said.

To create their stickers, participants first traced around a silhouette on their sticker paper. Then, after drawing pedals along the outline and creating a flower in the center, they traced the sketches with a pen. Finally, they colored the designs and cut it out.
Community member Margaret Imperial appreciated the uniqueness of the workshop. “I’ve never done anything like this with the mooncake designs,” Imperial said. “I always enjoy learning about new things in culture.”
At the end, mooncakes were distributed, accompanying the participants’ handmade crafts and serving as a delicious treat.

Li hoped that the workshop gave people a chance to learn about Asian culture. “I hope people enjoyed it, learned about culture, and just had fun doing something creative,” Li said.
