Robotics Team Gears Up for New Season

M-A’s robotics team, Team 766, showcased three of their robots on the Green during Friday lunch to invite curious students to learn more about the team’s purpose and goals. The event featured fully functional robots, photographs of the team’s accomplishments, and team members ready to answer questions about the team and share their passion for robotics.

Robotics combines engineering, manufacturing, business, graphic design, and coding skills, allowing team members to specialize in areas that interest them. “We want to inspire people who have an interest in these careers to learn more about them,” sophomore Emmett Seeger said. “It’s all about doing what you’re interested in.”

New members undergo “rookie training,” where they complete classes about what they are interested in, and then finally work together to build their own robots. “It’s really nice to learn,” freshman Shalev Amirav Drory said. “I had to learn how to reprogram in the robotics style of code.”

Both Seeger and Amirav Drory emphasized that, although joining the team may seem daunting, the team welcomes everyone with open arms. “I felt acclimated to the team in two weeks. It was really quick,” Amirav Drory said.

For those considering joining, the team recommends getting involved early before the competitive meet season starts. “Join as soon as possible, take the classes you’re interested in, and if you end up enjoying it then definitely try to come as much as possible,” Seeger said.

“I’m excited about building more robots, winning competitions, and having fun,” Amirav Drory said about the upcoming season.

Seeger highlighted the sense of accomplishment felt after successfully building a robot. “Just seeing that something that you put your work into is pretty much fully functional and being able to say, ‘Hey, you see this part of it, I built that,’ is very rewarding,” he said.

Team 766 meets in the afternoon on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and on Saturday mornings in S-6 and the makerspace. For more information, follow Team 766 on Instagram or go to their website.
