While most students wouldn’t dream of arriving at school at 6:30 a.m. on a Friday, many seniors sacrificed their sleep to spend quality time with classmates and create lasting memories of their last year of high school.
Senior Sunrise is a longstanding M-A tradition where seniors gather to watch the sunrise, drink hot cocoa, and enjoy a free breakfast. While most other schools do this event at the beginning of the year, M-A had previously opted to do it in the spring. However this year, they decided to follow suit, making the dawn shared together more symbolic to the (sun)rise of an amazing school year. “Senior Sunrise is the first of our last events here in high school,” senior Steven Gomez said. “After we graduate, we might not see each other for at least another 10 years.”
Senior class presidents Lainey Egnal and Kaitlyn Harding decided to host this year’s event around the PAC and student parking lot instead of on the football field like years past. “Typically, when people just sit on the field there’s nothing to do,” said Egnal. This year, students could take pictures with a senior-themed picture frame, play cornhole, and decorate parking spots with chalk.
Aside from Senior Sunrise, Egnal and Harding plan to organize other senior-only events throughout the school year to strengthen the connection within the class. “I think bonding outside of regular school events is really important, especially because this is our last year and we need to stick together,” Harding said.
While these seniors still have the rest of the year ahead of them, Senior Sunrise was a success in celebrating the beginning of the best year yet for M-A’s class of 2025.
