Homecoming Spirit Week Snapshots

Leadership hosted its Homecoming spirit week for students to show off their school pride last week. Outfits ranged from hyper-casual athleisure to funky disco attire. Despite the event’s slow start, students put on their best outfits to show off their Bear pride.

Tuesday: Adam Sandler Day

Spirit week started on Tuesday, since students had no school for Indigenous Peoples’ day on Monday. Bears showed up recreating Adam Sandler’s iconic hyper-casual style, sporting baseball caps, baggy shorts, sunglasses, and other pieces.

Sophomore Selina Manninen sported a red Yankees baseball cap with sunglasses and a button-up shirt. Freshman Presley Alabama Schiebold also wore a matching red Yankees cap and a Superman t-shirt.

Manninen enjoys spirit days for their fun and simplicity. “You don’t really need anything fancy,” she said.

Wednesday: ’70s Disco Day

Students turned back the clock on Wednesday as they dressed in their best disco attire, wearing colors and heritage pieces that called back to the era of Donna Summer and the Bee Gees.

Freshman Lela Eaton’s outfit consisted of flared jeans, Converse sneakers, a red halter top, and a flower headband to top it all off. “It’s not weird to dress up,” she said. “If you dress up, more people will dress up.”

Freshman Hadley Refuerzo Collins’ spirit was all about the color pink. Sporting a pink hoodie, sunglasses, and face paint, Collins’ outfit popped with vibrant ’70s colors. “I feel like when everybody dresses up, it creates unity and just happy lives,” she said.

Thursday: Neon Day

On Thursday, students donned bright colors reminiscent of neon signs along the Las Vegas strip or Miami Beach.

Sophomore Jaime Parada Hernandez sported all the classic neon colors, wearing a track suit with patterns of bright pink, green, and blue. Hernandez also wore neon green sweatbands and pink sunglasses. “I do my best to dress up because I think it’s fun,” he said.

Friday: Camouflage Day

In stark contrast to Thursday’s bright and loud colors, students donned camouflage on Friday.

Students dressed in muted black, gray, and green tones meant to blend in with the surroundings in preparation for the Homecoming Rally and football game against Sacred Heart Prep.

Freshman Henry Virula Romero wore a Realtree camouflage shirt over a waffle long-sleeved shirt and grey sweatpants. Romero compared this school’s spirit with the spirit of his previous school. “It’s better than my last school,” he said.

Some staff members also partook in the fun. Julena Alvarez, a campus aide, sported a Bear Wear Homecoming-themed shirt along with a U.S. Army Patrol cap she was issued during her service in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. “It’s kind of prideful, you know,” Alvarez said.
