Style Watch: Fall to Winter

As the crisp air comes in, Bears are retiring their warm-weather outfits and leaning into more layers, coats, sweatpants, leggings, and an array of autumn tones. From bright colors to warm fall colors, the campus wardrobe is shifting as quickly as the changing leaves this season.

Sophomores Vanessa Polly, Grace Lobdell, and Anna Brown started the first couple days of fall with an assortment of playful colored stripes and a classic denim jean look. “I watched Gilmore Girls last night, and I actually took some inspiration from it and tried to match that vibe,” Lobdell said. Lobdell’s sweater is from Reformation, flip flops from Rainbow, and jeans from Seven.

“I wanted to be comfortable, so I put on a nice baggy shirt and sweatshirt, as well as my favorite pair of jeans and some flip flops because I didn’t have time to put on socks this morning,” Polly said. “I like to be eco-friendly.”

With temperatures dropping, many Bears have found creative ways to bring fall into their outfits. “[My outfit relates to fall] because there’s a little red [on my jacket], so red and fall,” freshman Jordan Benkis said. Benkis wore black sweatpants and a comfy hoodie to keep warm on a cold day.

When asked how he styles himself in the morning, freshman Dylan Courson added, “I look into my closet and I see what is happening in there, and then I usually just pick some stuff up from it and then put it on.”

Sophomore Olivia Rogers pulled together a cozy, layered look to take on the newly chilly weather. “I chose my outfit because I was really cold this morning,” Rodgers said. She paired a puffer jacket and Uggs to keep her warm during the windy morning.

With colder days setting in, students are finding ways to stay cozy without losing their sense of style.“[I was inspired to] keep it cute, cozy, but make sure it still looks good,” sophomore Regina Arias Cabrera said. Her favorite piece of her outfit is her jacket, which complements the darker fall colors in her clothes, making her pink hair pop.

Some students simply choose their outfits based on their own preferences. Sophomore Lizette Calvillo chose hers based on her favorite color, pink. “I really like pink, so I like to wear pink a lot,” Calvillo said. She paired grey leggings with a pink shirt and, yes, a pink jacket.

However, the majority of students simply chose their clothes just based on the quickest thing they can find in the morning before the trek to school. “Usually I will just see pants on my floor and put them on,” junior Wyatt Wetzel said. Although of course weather plays a key role and calls for more layers. “I’ve had to wear more pants because it’s colder.”
