Whether it be an elaborate getup or a simple onesie, Halloween inspires students to show off their creativity and style. Students sported their different looks to school, celebrating the spooky spirit on Friday.

Junior Calvin Blanford dressed up as 49ers’ mascot Sourdough Sam. “It’s a fun way to show your school spirit and have a good time,” he said. “I’m a huge Niners fan, and it seemed like a pretty easy costume to pull off in a short period of time.”

“I love that everybody shows up and shows out, and that we forget about social rules and what’s embarrassing to wear,” junior Willow Basta said. She dressed up as a minion as part of a group costume with Leadership.

Secretary Alexandria Underwood and guidance counselor Emilie Bohorquez joined the guidance office group costume, which was Winnie the Pooh and Ratatouille themed. “[I love] how colorful it is, how fun it feels,” Bohorquez said. “There’s that energy in the air—it’s just a fun day.”

Freshman Julianne Morissey went all out as Rapunzel with a long braided wig covered in flowers. “I thought it would be really fun to make the wig glow. It lights up,” she explained. “I really like this costume, and I just wanted more people to see it.”

Senior Bailee van Loben Sels chose comfort on Halloween, showing off her school spirit in a bear onesie. “It’s senior year, and it’s fun and whimsical,” she said.

Freshman Xavier Martinez-Goss dressed up as DC supervillain the Riddler, a character who he feels matches his style and personality. “I love how camp he is,” he said. “I think Halloween should be thoroughly enjoyed.”

Junior Po Budagogova went with a creative costume as a ghost from the short story The Girl with the Green Ribbon, “I thought it would just be cool to do it,” they said. “I just went on Pinterest… and then I put it together.”

Junior Felix Crim dressed up as a member of the band Baby Metal. “I think dressing up is fun,” he said. “I like Halloween, and I know that not everybody dresses up, and it can be kind of embarrassing, but I think it’s worth it, because it makes me happy and it makes other people happy.”
