Students, faculty, and family members congregated around the bleachers in Ayers Gym on Wednesday to celebrate the exceptional hard work and talent of 19 senior athletes, who signed with collegiate teams across the country. Each senior was commended by M-A’s athletic directors for their athletic journey and achievements, earning rapturous applause for their high school sports journey and the start of an entirely new one.
Soccer
Ella Mohr has been a competitive player since the age of 12. While she has explored many sports since her childhood, soccer was the game she fell in love with. For the last four years, Mohr has been the captain center back for Bay Area Surf, has been selected twice for the national select team, and has played internationally in England and Italy. Mohr played only two seasons for M-A’s soccer varsity team due to an unfortunate injury during her sophomore year and her decision to focus on club soccer her junior year. She will continue her athletic career at Bryn Mawr College.
Anika Carpenter began her soccer journey at age five. She has played in many competitive settings in her career, ranging from recreational leagues to club sports. Since her freshman year, she has been playing competitively for DeAnza Force and was selected for the 2007 girls Olympic Development team. Despite battling injuries in high school, Carpenter has found growth and success in her career. “I was out for five months,” Carpenter said. “Pushing through and realizing it wasn’t a long time really helped.” She is excited to join Penn State Berks’ women’s soccer team, where she will continue to develop and improve her skills.
Like many athletes, June Wagner fell in love with the sport at a young age. She made the varsity team in her freshman year but did not compete in high school as a sophomore. Outside of school, she competes in club sports. She was chosen to play for the West Coast regional team for the Youth Olympic Development program in addition to playing as a starting defender for Silicon Valley Soccer Academy. She has competed at the national level and is a semifinalist for the Elite Club National League National Championship. Wagner will continue her soccer career at Whitman College and will graduate a year early to attend Columbia Law School.
Baseball
Ryder Kelly, who will continue his career at UC Davis, has contributed to M-A’s varsity baseball team for all four years of high school and led as a team captain since his junior year. In his sophomore year, Kelly received all-league honors, and in both his sophomore and junior year, M-A was 2nd-team all-league. Outside of M-A, Ryder competes across the country for travel baseball teams.
For Max Brubacher, baseball has been a lifelong passion that began when he first started the sport at five years old. Brubacher has been a member of M-A’s baseball program for all four years of high school, but was unfortunately sidelined his sophomore and junior years due to injuries. He will be joining the team at St. Olaf College next year, where he hopes to adapt and contribute to the culture of the Minnesota-based team.
Wes Peterson will be starting a new chapter in his athletic career at the University of Virginia. Peterson started high school at St. Francis, but transferred to M-A during his sophomore year and has contributed to the Bears’ baseball program since then. He has played on competitive teams across the country, including some of the top travel teams. Peterson hopes to bring his work ethic and dedication to his future team.
Volleyball
Kylie Winters has played for M-A’s volleyball team for all four years and was awarded First team All-League during her senior year. In her final year, she was the captain of the team. She has won defensive player of the year three times and played club volleyball at Academy Volleyball Club. K. Winters will play volleyball at Texas Southwestern University next year.
Jocelyn Chang will continue playing volleyball at Tufts University. She has had an exceptional athletic career, being a star at both volleyball and M-A’s swim and dive team. She has played club volleyball for five years and played at the USA Volleyball National tournament four years in a row. In her two years playing for the varsity team, Chang has won the PAL Bay League both years along with K. Winters and was named MVP of the PAL league in 2025.
Cross Country
Aiden Sharp has been a star for M-A’s cross country team. For all four years, Sharp has competed in both cross country and track. He has been a captain for cross country since his junior year. His high school career is highlighted by running the fastest Crystal Springs course time and mile time by an M-A athlete in 22 years. Sharp will continue his education and athletics at the University of Chicago.
Paige McGaraghan has been running for M-A’s cross country team for four years. For the last two years, she was captain. This season, she made All-League and was a key factor in the cross country qualification for state championships, where they eventually placed 17th. McGaraghan will continue to run at Wellesley College, where she will be running for their cross country team as well as indoor and outdoor track.
Track and Field
Katie Cueva joined track and field in her sophomore year at the same time the school reopened its pole vault program. She placed third in CCS, qualifying her for the state meet during her junior season. She was named All-American for her third-place finish at the AAU Junior Olympics. Cueva will be joining the team at UC Berkeley next year.
Swim and Dive
Ava Jannik has been diving since she was seven years old and has been on M-A’s varsity swim and dive team for four years. Jannik was a finalist at the CCS diving championship for the past three years. Last year, she placed 2nd at the PAL Championships meet. She has been a member of the Stanford diving club for nearly 11 years and has competed in various regional and zone meets since. Jannik will be attending Cornell University.
Addison Finn has been swimming since she was five years old and has been competing for M-A for the last two years. Prior to transferring to M-A in her junior year, she was named WBAL First Team All-League and NISCA All-American. She has won two CCS titles and placed in the top 15 at the CIF State Championships. At M-A, she earned PAL First Team All-League honors and led her team to the CCS finals in her junior year. Additionally, Finn swims for Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics and has been a member of its national team. She will be enjoying the sun and waters at UC San Diego.
Haily Preuss can be considered a native of the waters, as she has been swimming since she was two years old and competing since she was six. She has made the state team every year since she joined the M-A varsity swim and dive team. She holds the number one record for three events for M-A. She was added to the Scholastic All-American team for High School and USA swimming achievements. Preuss will continue her career at the University of Pennsylvania.
Water Polo
Bryce Winters started his water polo journey in eighth grade and has been a player at M-A for four years. In his senior year, he was named team captain for the varsity team and won First Team All-League. He has led the school to league titles in his junior and senior years. B. Winters has also played at the club level with Mid Pen for two years and will continue to play at Chapman University.
Golf
Luke Carmel is joining the golf team at Occidental College. He has been playing competitively since he was 14 years old and was on the varsity team all four years of high school. He has been the captain since junior year and advanced to CCS regionals as an individual. Carmel has recorded two hole-in-ones in his career at M-A and competes outside of school in junior and amateur tournaments, qualifying for American Junior Golf tournaments.
Crew
Elise Riney has been at NorCal crew for five years as a coxswain. She has competed up to the international level, representing the United States. Rinet was awarded gold and silver medals at the Head of the Charles Regatta. Last summer, she raced internationally at the Henley Women’s Regatta in the United Kingdom. Riney will continue to row at UCLA in the women’s rowing program.
After eight years of competitive water polo, Scarlett Shenk for NorCal crew in 2025. In her short time in the sport, she has raced up to the national level at the Head of the Charles Regatta. She will be joining the women’s rowing program at UCLA.
Flag Football
Yajaira Ramos-Gonzalez blazes a trail for flag football athletes at M-A, as she is the first flag football athlete to be recruited to a college team. She has been playing since she was 13 years old and played for two years at M-A, along with four years of club flag football. During her time with the ShowYourRightsZone Flag football team, she set a milestone by winning her first MVP and championship title during the summer. She will be joining the team at Chowan University in 2026.
