The Best of Homecoming Spirit Week

During the week before the long-awaited homecoming football game, M-A students were buzzing with excitement. To help foster excitement, Leadership planned a week of fun events and spirit days. From sporting their favorite team’s jersey to bringing a basket or even a stroller in place of a backpack, students showed off their M-A spirit with creative looks. Here are some of the best:

Monday: Comfy Day

For the first day of the week, Bears rolled out of bed and showed up in their most comfortable attire: sweats and pajamas.

Junior Mia Sanchez rocked a gray pajama set. “I’m in Leadership, so that makes me super excited to participate in things like spirit week because I see the planning that goes into it,” she said.

Senior Tula Basta wore a pastel pink Comfy, a wearable blanket. “I was exhausted, and I really felt like a comfy outfit was the move today,” Basta said.

“It’s just comfy and nice. It’s also convenient to do. There’s no reason not to,” senior Rowan Hanley said about dressing up for Comfy Day.

Tuesday: Anything but a Backpack Day

On Tuesday, students got creative and brought their best “backpacks”—or anything that could hold their school supplies. This was one of the most creative days of the week.

Delilah Bellis Rivera / M-A Chronicle Emes uses a bread basket for a creative backpack.

Freshman Keira Emes brought a bread basket. “I just like the creative thoughts and ideas,” she said.

Alli Brottem / M-A Chronicle Carneiro brings a picnic basket.

Senior Shayla Carneiro brought a picnic basket as her “backpack.” “As a senior, I feel like this is the year that I really want to go all out for spirit week, so I’ve been trying to do that,” Carneiro said.

Alli Brottem / M-A Chronicle Lopez uses a stroller to carry her school supplies.

Sophomore Gabriella Penaloza Lopez rolled a stroller around campus. “I like to be goofy a lot. It’s just fun because if nobody does it, who’s gonna do it?” Lopez said.

Wednesday: Jersey Day

On jersey day, students represented their favorite sports teams in style.

Alli Brottem / M-A Chronicle Mill poses with her Giants baseball jersey.

Freshman Noam Mill wore her Giants baseball jersey. “I decided to participate because school spirit is fun and exciting,” Mill said.

Thursday: Star Spangled Spirit

On Thursday, students came to school in Star Spangled spirit, proudly donning red, white, and blue.

Alli Brottem / M-A Chronicle Rodgers decks herself out in patriotic attire.

Freshman Olivia Rodgers wore a patriotic denim jacket and a flag bandana. “I was looking forward to it because I had my outfit pretty planned down,” Rodgers said.

Delilah Bellis Rivera / M-A Chronicle Basta wears an American flag cape for school spirit.

“I just went all out because I think it’s really fun to be super expressive and spirited,” sophomore Willow Basta said.

Friday: Pirate Paradise

For the final day of spirit week, Bears dressed up in their best pirate-inspired outfits for the Homecoming rally. The theme? “Paly Walks the Plank.”

Delilah Bellis Rivera / M-A Chronicle Fehrenbach goes all out for Pirate Paradise.

Senior Brooke Fehrenbach wore a pirate costume. “I participate every day—I have since freshman year. I really like spirit weeks,” Fehrenbach said.
