The Three Water Bottle Brands Dominating Desks on Campus

Metal water bottles are used for self-expression just as much as they are used for staying hydrated. This year, M-A students are mainly sipping from three trending brands: Hydro Flask, Owala, and Stanley.

Hydro Flask

Hydro Flask’s popularity originated with the VSCO girl aesthetic in 2019, but have lasted as more than a short trend and are still considered cute and valuable. “It’s durable and keeps my water cold,” freshman Zoe Ruth said.

Hydro Flasks are known for their excellent insulation. “It keeps my water cold all day long,” freshman Farah Ghajar said.

Many students consider their Hydro Flask a staple for long school days. “It’s definitely my everyday water bottle,” junior Mia Sanchez said.

Owala

“All my friends like Owala, so I got an Owala,” senior Claire Gong said. Many students have been hopping on the Owala trend, which took off in the middle of 2023 because of the brand’s bright color combinations and unique options for functionality—both a built-in straw and a wide-mouth opening.

“Owalas are definitely the trendiest water bottle right now. They are pretty practical and have a straw,” sophomore Aisley Burch, who uses a Hydro Flask, said.

“Owala is the net good, but I don’t have vehement opposition to either. Stanley did a good rebrand and I do respect a good rebrand,” senior Holden Thomson said.

Owala is trending as the latest water bottle of choice between students this school year.

Stanley

The Stanley brand began in 1913, marketed as the perfect water bottle for an adventurous lifestyle. But they’ve become a classroom staple after going viral on social media in 2023.

Many students turn to Stanley for its easy-access drinking straw and handle that helps with transportation “I like how easy it is to drink out of,” sophomore Katie Jun said.

Similar to the Owala, social media influencers have made Stanley a must-have for many teens because of the constant new color releases and convenient features.
