What’s Your Soundtrack, Seniors?

As the school year comes to an end, M-A’s senior class is looking back on memories, growth, and changes throughout the past four years. Many students associate certain songs or albums with important parts of their lives, drawing connections between heartfelt lyrics and real-life situations or having music that reminds them of memorable experiences.

So, what are the class of 2025’s defining songs and albums?

Volcano by Jungle,” senior Kaitlyn Harding said. “The songs are very mellow, which explains how the school year has its ups and downs, but we still appreciate all the happiness from this year.”

“I would pick Graduation by Kanye West,” senior Leo Mazzon said. “I think the music kind of represents the freedom we’ll have and the excitement in the future.”

Many seniors picked popular 2010s songs, ranging from feel-good R&B to energetic dance tracks.

“I would say K.I.D.S. by Mac Miller,” senior Oliver Loza said. “It has the song ‘Senior Skip Day’ in it, which reminds me of school.”

“‘We Are The People’ by Empire of the Sun,” senior Rico Arriaga said. “Definitely ‘We Are The People,’” senior Paul Whelan added. “Because we are the people, and it just reminds me of the ups and downs about school here.”

“I would say ‘California’ by Beabadoobee,” senior Corbin Nam said. “I’m just soaking in that California heat, that California sunlight, before I go to college in the southeast.”

“I would say ‘Good Morning’ by Kanye West,” senior Aaron Gutierrez Montes said. “The song talks about school and graduating in general, and living through that and reaching graduation makes me think about not just me but all of our classes and time here.”

While some opted to define the fun-filled final semesters of their M-A experience, others chose a more melancholy, reflective route.

“‘Ribs’ by Lorde,” senior Shayla Carneiro said. “Definitely ‘Ribs,’ it doesn’t define my whole senior year but definitely now,” senior Sara Djafari said. “I really like the song, but it’s a little melancholy, just like the end of school.”

One of the most memorable things Bears will be taking with them beyond graduation is the connections they make with fellow students, classmates, teachers, and more.

“I think ‘Say Hey (I Love You)’ by Michael Franti & Spearhead,” senior Tessa Goldman said. “This year I’ve been spending a lot more time with my friends and appreciating those close to me, and I think that song is all about loving who you spend your time with.”

Music allows us to put our appreciation for the world around us into words, a way to define these moments that seem fleeting as the class of 2025 prepares to leave M-A.

“I just love the people around me, and I think they made my senior year the best experience possible,” Goldman added.
