Girls Volleyball Triumphs Carlmont Scots

The girls’ volleyball team outmatched the Carlmont Scots 25-22, 25-21, and 25-16 on Thursday night.

The Bears kicked off the first set with an unstoppable kill from senior Sienna Morales, sending a wave of excitement into the crowd. An intimidating block from junior Kayla Greenbaum leveled the score 8-8.

“We started off a little tight with them, but we got the game plan down, so in the end it paid off,” senior Duru Ruacan said.

The first set was a suspenseful back-and-forth battle, with the Scots building a 21-19 lead off of fast hits and tough serves.

After a timeout from M-A, the Bears’ defense was no match for the Scots with impressive blocks from seniors Daniela Eline, Sarah Littlefield, and Morales. An outstanding ace from senior Meki Maile turned the tides in favor of the Bears, securing the first set 25-22.

The second set commenced with a kill from Eline, and effective communication and teamwork led the Bears to a substantial 6-1 lead.

“We worked on a lot of communication over the past week with practice because we had a few rough games,” Greenbaum said.

Still, the Scots kept M-A on their toes, ramping up their offense with rigorous serves to tie the game 17-17.

Despite a calculated timeout from Carlmont, the Bears kept their focus and won the second set 25-21.

The Bears came into the third set with fierce determination. Greenbaum, Ruacan, and Eline took charge of the set, crushing hits to close the match 25-16.

“I think we finished it off fast. With teams like this it’s been our goal to win in three,” senior Ava Chansari said.

“We played more like a team than we have in the past few games, and it really showed,” Littlefield said.

The Bears will travel to play the Hillsdale Knights on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
