Last week, M-A students spent time away from campus for stay-cations, vacations, and everything in between.
Many students stayed home over break for some much-needed rest and relaxation amidst a stressful second semester. “I hung out with my friend over break, and we stayed home and rested. We also pierced our ears, which was fun,” senior Mayra Arias said. Senior Sam Goldman also stayed close to home, making sure to make time to hang out with friends. “I had a few friends over at my house for dinner, which was a lot of fun. I also biked around to spend some time outside,” Goldman said.
Some students traveled outside the country for beautiful foreign vacations. “I went to Italy and Switzerland over break. I visited places like Rome and Pisa to see some stunning buildings and monuments. The food was also amazing,” sophomore Aarushi Srivastava said.

Food was a highlight for many students. “I went down to LA to tour some colleges before applications start over the summer, and I got to eat a bunch of really good food down there. I had an amazing Thai dinner. It was definitely better than anything I’ve had in the Bay Area,” junior Riya Mehta said.
With the school year wrapping up, college tours, like Mehta’s, were how many other upperclassmen spent their time off. Juniors traveled across the country to look at colleges they were considering applying to, and seniors toured their acceptances to choose their next destination. “I went to Spokane to look at my college. It was the admitted students preview day, and seeing the other students who could be my classmates next year was cool,” senior Conrad Gullixson said.

Junior Molly Rosen also spent time around the country touring colleges. “My mom and I went around the country to tour colleges. We went to SoCal, where I saw USC and UCLA, and got to spend a day at Disneyland, which was a nice way to bond with my mom. We also flew to Nashville to look at Vanderbilt, which I loved,” Rosen said. “My mom and I got to do all the touristy things while we were there and saw all the famous bars and restaurants downtown.”
With the spring sports season in full swing, some student-athletes still had competitions over the break. “I got to spend break at home most of the week, but I had a track meet the first weekend at Stanford and carpooled with my teammates down to LA for another meet the second weekend. Our team did pretty well, and spending time with them in SoCal was a blast,” freshman Caroline Pflaum said.

Spring break offered a much-needed reset, giving students the perfect way to recharge and prepare for the final eight weeks of school.
