Dear Bearby,
I feel some distress because my friend has been spending more and more time with a boy that she likes. She never has time to do things anymore. Are friendships not as important as romantic partners?
From, Distressed Friend
Dear Distressed Friend,
Feeling anxiety about how a relationship might change because of a crush is completely understandable. Your friend is likely figuring out how to manage her time with the addition of a new, special connection. While it is hard to feel undervalued, be patient and know that she may feel overwhelmed by her new responsibilities. Even so, you could try gently asking her if there is any time she can set aside for a plan with you after school or on the weekend. It’s important to strengthen valuable friendships just as much as romantic ones!
Love, Bearby
