M-A’s annual art show, held this Thursday in the Makerspace, was a vibrant celebration of students’ diverse artistic abilities. The room was adorned with a rich variety of art forms, including ceramic figures, photography, film, and paintings.
Before the art show, a group of dedicated art students and teachers arrived early to set up the food table and arrange the artwork, transforming the room into a gallery of student-made pieces. The students’ creations, ranging from deeply personal narratives to more lighthearted and whimsical creations, were a testament to their acquired skills and the extensive effort they had invested in their classes all year.
AP Photography student junior Anna Lasky shared a glimpse into her artistic process. “For me, the journey of creating art is as important as the final product. It usually takes me about two days to come up with just the idea for something that inspires me. But bringing that idea to life, executing it, takes way longer and is a process I truly enjoy,” she said.
Senior Meena Alvi said, “My favorite part of the art show is seeing all the other art pieces, especially photos because there are so many nice photos from AP Photography. I also love seeing all the works from ceramics.”
For some students, the art show was a chance to relax and enjoy the ambiance, music, and food while admiring the artwork of their peers. Junior Kirsten Trihy said, “I decided to stop by the art show before the choir concert, and it’s been a delightful experience. I’ve had the opportunity to appreciate some amazing art and enjoy the company of my fellow students.”
Most students and parents came to the art show not just to see the works of their friends or children, but to truly appreciate the work of all of M-A’s talented artists. Junior Sam Goldman said, “It’s very interesting to look at the drawings and paintings because I’m not very versed in those mediums, so it is nice to see and appreciate.” This sense of mutual admiration and support truly embodies the spirit of the M-A community.
For many students, creating pieces for the art show was the culmination of lots of hard work behind the scenes. Lasky said, “I will miss getting to do the whole process of AP photo and coming up with a topic and seeing everyone’s work. I find it fun to take photography and express myself through it.”
Alvi added, “I love it because it’s celebrating everything we do. Especially for art, it takes a while for us to get a good idea and put it together. I also love getting to know people that I had no idea were in art class until I saw their piece.”
