Bear Bites: Los Gallos Taqueria

1 min read

Located on the border of Menlo Park and Redwood City, Marsh Manor’s Los Gallos Taquería is an exceptional spot to grab a meal for take-out or dine-in. Open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, you can find anything from huevos rancheros to a classic super burrito.

I went there for dinner with my friends and was pleasantly surprised by the many options on the menu, which included prices and pictures for almost all the items. Los Gallos is cash-only, but there is an ATM inside and a Wells Fargo ATM a few doors down. There is also plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

The menu and ordering counter

We went up to the counter and ordered fish tacos ($5.50 each), chicken enchiladas ($14.99 for one, a dollar for each additional), and chicken tamales ($19.99 for two). For drinks, we ordered horchata and hibiscus agua fresca ($3.50 each). We then went to the sidebar, where you can get free chips, limes, and an array of salsa options. Once we found an empty table, we snacked on some chips while we waited briefly for our food to arrive.

Sophomore Celia Bernstein said, “The horchata from Los Gallos is my favorite because I love the taste and it has a lot of flavor.”

The first thing to come to our table was the fish tacos. Overflowing with fish, lettuce, and green sauce, these were well worth our money. Freshman Elise Riney said, “Almost every time I come to Los Gallos, I order the fish tacos. They are the perfect amount of spice, and two is just the right amount of food.”

Our chicken tamales came next. On a jam-packed plate with beans, rice, lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream, these tamales were delicious.

Lastly, two chicken enchiladas coated in tomato sauce with all the same sides arrived at our table. Bernstein said, “I loved the enchiladas, they were great with a bit of sour cream and guacamole to balance out the spice.”
