Jason Cafe is a cozy restaurant right off El Camino Real in Menlo Park. The eatery is usually packed on weekends with groups enjoying sweet breakfasts, savory lunches, or a mix of both for a delicious brunch.
French Toast Combo ($18): 7/10
The French toast combo is soft with a rich, buttery flavor. Along with a smooth maple syrup that enhances the delectable taste, the plate is served with two eggs cooked however you’d like them and two pieces of sausage or bacon. While the combo is delicious, a small bowl of fruit would be the perfect sweet addition.
Strawberry Waffle ($13.89): 8/10
This fluffy and perfectly golden-brown waffle is topped with freshly sliced strawberries and cool whipped cream that elevate the taste. However, the dish could be improved by adding more strawberries for an increase in fresh flavor and a few more spoonfuls of whipped cream.
California Eggs Benedict with Hash Brown ($19.20): 9/10
This is undoubtedly the best dish on the menu. The egg is cooked perfectly, neither runny nor overdone. The English muffin that holds the egg is smothered in a zesty, underseasoned hollandaise sauce and topped with creamy sliced avocado. The hashbrown is the dish’s weakest link, lacking any salt or spice and having an inconsistent texture. Despite this, the dish came together to form a savory plate that can’t be resisted.
Chorizo Egg Scramble with Toast and House Potatoes ($19.20): 5/10
The egg scramble has little to no flavor. It comes with salsa, avocado, and sour cream, but unfortunately, even the add-ons are unable to salvage the weak flavor profile. The toast is appetizing—soft and heavily-buttered, overpowering any jelly added. The potatoes also lack flavor and are surprisingly bland, especially when compared to the delicious flavors of other dishes.
Raspberry Lemonade ($4.50): 9/10
The lemonade is a refreshing drink served with cool ice. The mix of sour and sweet from the lemon and sugar makes it a great palate cleanser between dishes. Many fruit-flavored lemonades lack a balance between the lemonade and the fruit flavoring, but this drink achieves a perfect combination. The sugary raspberry flavor is sweet and doesn’t overpower the lemon. Even though this is a great drink, the unreasonably high price is a considerable downside.
