Students packed the Green to scope out this year’s clubs during Club Rush on Thursday. The Green transformed into a vibrant maze of trifold boards, as clubs handed out food and candy to encourage students to sign up. From new clubs like the Resale Club and the Jumpstart Club to M-A classics like the Robotics Club and the Drama Club, students had plenty of opportunities to get involved and explore their interests.

Sophomore Helen Han, co-president of the Wealth For Kids Health Club, enjoyed seeing the campus come alive. “I thought it was really interesting seeing what students at M-A were passionate about,” she said. “I had a lot of fun learning about causes that students could help improve.”

Here are six of M-A’s clubs this year.

Psychology Club

The Psychology Club is a space for students interested in learning how the human brain works. Senior co-presidents Pooja Shenoy and Sofia Overby joined the club as freshmen and took over last year. “We both just love psychology,” Shenoy said. During meetings, she and Overby lead interactive activities and lessons that explore psychology. “I think it’s a good way for people to get an introduction to psychology,” Shenoy said. The Psychology Club meets every other Wednesday at lunch in G-10.

Resale Club

The Resale Club is a service club that integrates resale and giving back to charity. “We are going to resell [clothing and shoes] for a profit, and then at least 10% of that profit is going to go to charity,” freshman president Viet-Linh Do said. The Resale Club meets on Thursdays in E-13 at lunch.

Latin Club

The Latin Club is an engaging club for students who wish to learn more about the Latin language. Sophomore president Lela Eaton runs the club with sophomore vice President Ellie Kriebel. “We love this club. It’s our pride and joy,” Eaton said. “This year we’re gonna play the most games, we’re gonna bring the most energy, and the most food. It’s gonna be crazy.” The Latin Club meets every Wednesday at lunch in E-12.

Jumpstart Club

The Jumpstart Club is a support club designed to help preschoolers build a strong educational foundation, especially those who may have limited access to educational resources and support. The club works with an organization called Learning Home Volunteers, which prepares low-income children for elementary school by providing learning materials and coaching. Juniors Tara Azadpour and Eden Sturt co-founded the club this year. “We want to do service projects every month,” Azadpour said. “And also just write letters to kind of uplift the kids’ community.” The Jumpstart Club meets every other Friday at lunch in room D-16.

Surfriders Club

The Surfriders Club is dedicated to cleaning up local beaches. They are partnered with the Surfrider Foundation, a nonprofit organization that hosts community events, including beach cleanups and a yearly fundraiser called One Ocean Galas. Sophomores Sage Lee and Avery Moeller took over the club last year as freshmen after the previous leader graduated. “Good people who have good morals, care about our planet, and don’t want all the animals in the ocean to die [should join],” Lee said. The Surfriders Club meets every other Thursday at lunch in room P-5.

History Club

The History Club was founded last year by senior William Degner. “I started it because I love history, and I wanted to see if I could find other people who loved history as much as I did,” Degner said. At meetings, he leads games and trivia about history. “People who love history, people who just want to have fun, maybe learn something [should join],” Degner said. Starting September 21st, the History Club will meet every other Monday at lunch in B-4.
