Boys Lacrosse Wins Big on Senior Night

This past Thursday, the boys lacrosse team cruised to a 14-0 win against the Burlingame Panthers, celebrating their senior night with a win.

Junior Ethan Vesley said, “I was glad that we could get such a big victory on senior night; these guys deserve to have a special senior night and I think the team helped them have that.”

The game started off with Burlingame winning the face off, before M-A won the ball back and junior Peter Koren scored the first goal of the night. The Bears won the next face off and kept the ball moving to open up space for a goal. Sophomore Colin Kryger found the back of the net for the first time of the night. Already up 2-0, M-A won the ensuing face off, and Kryger quickly scored his second goal of the night.

Just four minutes into the game, the Bears were already up 4-0: Koren scored his second goal of the night after a swift attack from the Bears.

With four minutes left in the quarter, Burlingame had their first attack of the night shortly. Sophomore goalie Oliver Yuk made a great save

Junior Jack Kryger prevented an attack from Burlingame. He then found a pass down the field, got the ball back, and ripped it into the back of the net. Halfway through the half, the Bears’ lead was 5-0.

Senior Finn O’Brien scored a goal as the first quarter ended while being hit with the stick of a Panther defender, nonetheless M-A went into the second quarter with a commanding 6-0 lead.

The second quarter started with M-A winning the face off. Senior Tyler Atkinson scored a goal on their first possession. With six minutes left in the second quarter, O’Brien scored again, pushing the Bears’ lead to eight points.

After two more goals, from Colin Kryger and Atkinson, the Bears went into halftime up by a score of 10-0. The Bears went into the start of the fourth quarter leading the Panthers 12-0, dominating the game.

Despite the large lead, M-A’s attack did not stop. Koren scored another goal on the opening possession of the fourth quarter. Senior Owen Ryan scored his first goal of the game. With a few minutes left in the game, this made the lead 14-0.

Senior Chase Baker summed up his performance by saying, “I’m just him,” adding, “I couldn’t have asked for a better season. We played as a team with confidence and trust up until the last minute of the game.”

O’Brien said, “Our chemistry has been rising throughout the whole season, and this win gave us a huge confidence boost going into playoffs.”

The Bears will play the Serra Padres in the first round of the playoffs tomorrow night at 7.
