Girls Soccer Overwhelmed by Saint Ignatius

On Tuesday night, the girls’ soccer team was overpowered by the Saint Ignatius Wildcats by a score of 4-0.

The Bears attempted their first shot of the night just four minutes into the game, which sailed just over the crossbar. The Bears were put under pressure shortly after sophomore goalkeeper Elise Koo made a big save 10 minutes into the game.

With possession going back and forth, Koo had another great save to keep the match 0-0. The Bears had another attack headed just wide of the goal after a cross from senior Georgia Auerbach. Despite the early pressure from M-A, the Wildcats scored first with 18:25 left in the first half.

Senior Avery Galles had a big block that prevented another Saint Ignatius attack with 15:50 left in the half, keeping the score 1-0. M-A continuously held off the attack until there were just two minutes left in the first half, and the Wildcats found their second goal of the game.

The halftime whistle blew and the Bears went into the half down 2-0.

M-A started the second half with renewed energy, but the Wildcats continued to dominate the game in terms of possession. The Bears struggled to get a hold of the ball throughout the night. M-A looked for attacking opportunities, but the Wildcats’ defense was strong. As the half went on, the Wildcats cashed in on another goal off of a well-placed cross, and ended any hopes of a comeback for the Bears

As the clock winded down, Saint Ignatius converted on their fourth goal of the night, and the final whistle blew with M-A down 4-0.

After the game, Auerbach said, “I really think we’re close to clicking. We are just a few seconds off on a lot of passes, but as the season goes on, we’ll get better and better.”

Senior Dani Koo added, “It was obviously a tough loss, but I think we all know that we are better than we played today. It’s just one game–we’ll be back.”
