As the boys varsity volleyball team continues its second successful season in M-A history, students have come together to create a Seventh Man Club. The Seventh Man Club is one of many clubs that act as cheering sections and support systems for sports; the Seventh Woman is the designated group for girls volleyball and the Twelfth Man Club for football, among others.
Seniors Olivia Jackson, Lexi Lobdell, and Maddie Worden have taken major leadership roles in the creation of the club. Jackson wanted to create the club because “there is a lot of support for other sports at M-A, so why not support the new boys volleyball team?”
Jackson, Lobdell, and Worden also wanted to raise the awareness and popularity of the sport because of how successful the team has been since its first season last year. Jackson wants to “get people out to their games because they are really fun to watch.”
Junior volleyball player Bryan Kang shared, “It’s great that more people are getting involved with boys volleyball. It’s really cool to see that we have supportive fans, so keep coming out to the games!”
The leaders of the club are planning to make shirts for the club to advertise for the team. The three plan to “sell [the shirts] to the students to promote the team.” Jackson stated, “We are especially excited to see the boys kill it this season!”
The boys team is proud to see the club forming this season. Varsity junior Lukas Rash is “excited to see the start of the club and appreciates all of the efforts taken by the fellow students to support our team whenever possible.”
Sophomore player Schuyler Knapp is happy to see that the “school is starting to recognize boys volleyball as a new sport and [is] supporting the program with fans and raising awareness for games.”
So far, the team has an undefeated league season and an overall record of 11 wins and 2 losses. Come out to the boys volleyball games to support the team and the newly-founded Seventh Man Club!
