The temperatures have dropped to a whopping 50 degrees, and it is officially winter. Whether you want to keep warm or take on the cold, here are some winter activities that are fun for all!
Even if you’re a wall clinger, ice skating is a fun winter activity that you can do with friends, family, and even teams. Peyton Tom, a senior and one of the M-A Dance Team captains, explained, “Ice skating is a really fun team bonding experience because it gets everyone in the holiday spirit, and it’s easy for big groups.” Nearby ice skating rinks include Winter Lodge in Palo Alto, San Mateo on Ice, and Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square, San Francisco.
If you’re looking for a warmer activity, get some snacks, a cozy blanket, and watch a holiday classic. Some popular holiday movies are Elf, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Love Actually. Find Netflix Christmas movie recommendations here!
If you’re looking for a more creative activity, try making gingerbread houses! A fun twist on this classic is to think outside the box: make a gingerbread school or a gingerbread cafe instead. You can also have a competition with friends or family for the most creative design. You can buy gingerbread house kits at Target, Michaels, and Amazon.
Another activity to stay warm is sipping on hot chocolate. If you are looking to buy hot chocolate, some great places are Cafe Borrone, Starbucks, Coupa Cafe, and Ghirardelli Square. For hot chocolate in the comfort of your own home, check out this recipe.
There is no better way to get into the holiday spirit than by looking at holiday lights. Junior Robbie Kuhnen said, “I always look at Christmas lights with my family, and it’s one of my favorite holiday traditions.” You can visit Christmas Tree Lane in Palo Altos or San Carlos.
Another fun holiday activity is baking cookies. Testing out new recipes or decorating cookies is a delicious way to spend time with friends and family this holiday season. “I like to bake, and during the holidays I like to try new recipes to give to my friends and family!” Kuhnen added. If you are feeling bored this winter, try one of these activities!
