What Students Really Think of Taylor Swift’s New Album

Two weeks after the release of her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, Taylor Swift continues to spark conversation among fans. Some listeners feel it’s time for her to explore new sounds, while others praise the album as a joyful chapter in her career. After reviewing the album, the M-A Chronicle asked students how they felt about Swift’s latest era.

Amanda Fisk

Freshman Amanda Fisk dislikes the new album. “It’s too pop—it’s what everyone thinks her music is, and that’s why they hate on her,” Fisk said. “I think she’s running out of ideas, and maybe she should try a new genre.”

Brayden Auxier

Sophomore Brayden Auxier is disappointed by the album. “It doesn’t have the same quality as her older albums—the lyrics just aren’t there anymore,” he said. Auxier also mentioned how it feels rushed. “I think that she should have done better on the cover art, and it really just feels like she just threw it together,” he said.

Brianna Henriquez

Freshman Brianna Henriquez loves the new album and recommends that people listen to it. “I like the lyrics, and it gives me that nostalgic feeling,” she said. “Everybody should listen to it, and I think the people who don’t like Taylor Swift are haters.” Henriquez likes Swift’s music, both old and new.

Gustav Singel

Senior Gustav Singel doesn’t like The Life of a Showgirl. “A lot of her lyrics are just emotionally immature,” Singel said. “It’s just kind of corny, in my opinion.”

Ella Evans

Freshman Ella Evans enjoys the album because it still feels fresh to her. “In my household, my sister listens to [Swift] so often that it kind of chafes, and I don’t like it as much, but we haven’t been listening to the new album as often.”

Evans has a more positive attitude towards Swift. “I think she’s a really good artist and lyricist, and she has some good songs,” she said.

Sebastian Saenz

Lucia Rose / M-A Chronicle

Freshman Sebastian Saenz mentioned that Swift’s album isn’t as family-friendly this time around. “She said some explicit things in her songs,” he said.

Contrary to many, Saenz didn’t hate the new album. “She’s mid. The Life of a Showgirl was okay,” he added.

Cameryn Bradshaw

Freshman Cameryn Bradshaw noticed a decline in the quality of Swift’s albums. “I think she hit her peak a while ago, and lately it’s just been going down these past years,” Bradshaw said.

However, Bradshaw didn’t have a negative opinion of the album as a whole. “It wasn’t bad, but it obviously wasn’t the best album,” she said.

Lucas Lara Llabres

Sophomore Lucas Lara Llabres mentioned how he notices a downgrade in the quality of Swift’s albums. “I think the performance on this one was off—on other albums, she was very consistent,” he said.
