On any normal day, you will see seniors haul their way into the doors of their first-period class fashionably late. However, for what very well may be the first time this year, on May 15, plenty of M-A seniors beat the roosters and woke up early to watch the sunrise together on Coach Parks Field.
The Senior Sunrise event is a yearly tradition that invites students to sit out on the field to watch the sun rise alongside their classmates. M-A’s Leadership class, who organized the event, provided donuts and hot chocolate to attendees.
Despite it being a cloudy morning, students arrived at around 6 a.m. and cozied up in their blankets, sitting around their friends to watch the sky lighten up. Others ran around the field playing games such as football or tag.
After the sun rose, students hung around to talk to their friends or play games like Heads Up. By 7 a.m., most people had left so they could grab a snack or a quick snooze before returning to school.
The great turnout for the sunrise can be accredited to Leadership’s stellar marketing of the event. Senior Zachary Gosler said, “I really liked how Leadership constantly advertised the event on M-A today, posted fliers, and posted on Instagram to remind students of the event.”
As many seniors begin wrapping up their AP tests, working on their final projects, and preparing for graduation, “the end” is approaching hastily. The Senior Sunrise was a major success in gathering seniors together to celebrate one of the many more-to-come goodbyes for the class of 2024.
