Style Watch: Earrings

With endless styles, materials, and combinations to choose from, earrings are a small yet powerful detail that can completely transform a look, adding edge, elegance, or a splash of personality to any outfit. Take a look at a variety of earrings showcased by students during the school day.

Sophomore Abby Anderson has made accessorizing an art form. With two piercings, she’s perfected a style of layering earrings that compliment her outfits, amplifying her unique look every day.

For her, the size of her earrings is a key factor in her selection. “Since I have two piercings, if it’s too big, it blocks my other piercing, but I don’t want it to be too small and go unnoticed,” she said.

Anderson’s collection holds personal memories and style appeal; she purchased her dangly ones in a small boutique in Las Vegas, and her studs were a heartfelt gift from her brother. “I think of each earring as a finishing touch that enhances my outfits,” she said.

Freshman Kate DeWitt rocks her orange pumpkin earrings, adding a playful touch to her Halloween spirit. She usually prefers lightweight earrings, regardless of size. These jolly pumpkins, a gift from her grandma, fit her preference perfectly. Although DeWitt does not think earrings are essential, she appreciates their ability to enhance her outfits and add festivity. “I have to take them out for volleyball, but I wear earrings pretty regularly,” she said.

Josiah Staadt

Freshman Josiah Staadt has a subtle yet significant approach to accessorizing, making earrings an essential part of his daily style. Unlike some who might reserve jewelry for special occasions, Staadt uses accessories every day to uplift his style. “Earrings are probably my favorite piece of jewelry I wear, but I also love wearing rings and necklaces,” he said.

Staadt does not prefer a specific earring brand but focuses on pieces that complement his unique style. He finds it convenient to order jewelry from Amazon.

Senior Amanda Jennings expresses her artistic flair by reusing a soda can cap to create unique earrings. She wears earrings around three times a week and likes making some of her jewelry.

Jennings usually favors lightweight, smaller earrings that still stand out. Her inspiration for creating these came from the Halloween season. “My sister was going to be a pirate for Halloween, so I thought making her jewelry for her costume would be cool, but I ended up keeping it for myself,” Jennings said.

Clara Maciel

Junior Clara Maciel’s ears are decorated with numerous piercings, each one telling its own story. She proudly sports earrings in her self-pierced third and fourth holes, which she wears daily to add to her style.

“Earrings are a huge part of my outfit,” Maciel said, “They make everything look more vibrant and complete.” Maciel gravitates toward lightweight, gold pieces from Amazon or local mall shops, prioritizing comfort alongside style. “If they’re too heavy, it’ll just weigh everything down,” she said.“If you want something that adds personality to an outfit, get earrings. They’re such a cute addition.”

Elizabeth Riesch

“I’ll wear almost any earrings, especially if they are ironic and silly. I have funny chicken earrings, and I love those too,” she said.
