Bear Bites: Scrumptious Local Mexican Cuisine at Mami Cheli’s

4 mins read

If you find yourself craving Mexican cuisine in downtown Menlo Park, Mami Cheli’s is the perfect place to satisfy your cravings. Mami Cheli’s is a small, family-owned restaurant that opened in 2018. It serves a variety of Mexican food, including tacos, burritos, and pupusas. Their restaurant setting is on the smaller side, but you have the option of either eating in or getting take out. Additionally, their staff was very friendly and made sure I enjoyed my meal. I tried a few of their dishes to see if visiting this restaurant is worth it. [/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner column_margin=”default” text_align=”left”][vc_column_inner column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” width=”1/2″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” bg_image_animation=”none”][nectar_animated_title heading_tag=”h6″ style=”color-strip-reveal” color=”Accent-Color” text=”Small Cheese Quesadilla: 7/10″][vc_column_text]Firstly, I ordered the Small Cheese Quesadilla. This quesadilla was freshly cooked, oozing warm cheese from a crispy tortilla. It cost $5, and there is an option to add meat for an additional cost. Though I thoroughly enjoyed this quesadilla, it was merely cheese and tortilla, making it fairly difficult to mess up.

Junior Anya Perizich said, “Mami Cheli’s quesadillas are so good! I also always get horchata with it.” [/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” width=”1/2″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” bg_image_animation=”none”][image_with_animation image_url=”74551″ alignment=”” animation=”Fade In” border_radius=”5px” box_shadow=”none” max_width=”100%”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner column_margin=”default” text_align=”left”][vc_column_inner column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” width=”1/2″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” bg_image_animation=”none”][image_with_animation image_url=”74550″ alignment=”” animation=”Fade In” border_radius=”5px” box_shadow=”none” max_width=”100%”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” width=”1/2″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” bg_image_animation=”none”][nectar_animated_title heading_tag=”h6″ style=”color-strip-reveal” color=”Accent-Color” text=”Mami Cheli’s Street Taco: 9/10″][vc_column_text]Next, I ordered the Mami Cheli’s Street Taco. You can customize the type of meat and beans to your liking. I ordered it with beef and pinto beans. It came with onions, cilantro, guacamole, and a heaping serving of salsa. Unlike other tacos I’ve had, this was served on a thick flour tortilla, which I really enjoyed. In case you couldn’t tell from the photo, this taco was delicious. The flavors of the beef and fresh guacamole merged beautifully, making it one of the best tacos I have had in the area. Though the taco was on the pricier side, at $6.50,I thought it was well worth it. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner column_margin=”default” text_align=”left”][vc_column_inner column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” width=”1/2″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” bg_image_animation=”none”][nectar_animated_title heading_tag=”h6″ style=”color-strip-reveal” color=”Accent-Color” text=”Revuelta Pupusa: 8/10″][vc_column_text]Then, I ordered a Revuelta Pupusa. A pupusa is a thick corn-based flatbread that is stuffed with different fillings. The Revuelta Pupusa came with pork, beans, and cheese, as well as a side of cabbage and carrots. This dish was very filling and tasty. This was the first time that I had a pupusa, and I was pleasantly surprised. Their menu offers a large variety of filling options, which I recommend you try. This Pupusa cost $5, making it quite affordable and worth every penny.

Junior Violet Riley said, “I always get the pupusas, and they are delicious. Also, they’re one of the only places in the area that sell pupusas.”

An agua fresca is a refreshing, sweet fruit drink, and this one was delicious. Unlike other aguas frescas I’ve had, it did not have an overwhelming artificial flavor. It was lightly sweetened and tasted like strawberry juice. It cost $5 for a large drink, which was more than enough to complement my meal. If you order from Mami Cheli’s, the agua fresca is a must-have.

Junior Anna Gady said, “I really love the agua fresca because I love the flavors they have. If you’re craving an agua fresca, this is the place to be!”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]Overall, I greatly enjoyed my meal at Mami Cheli’s. All of their food was freshly made and delectable, making it a must-try restaurant in Menlo Park’s downtown.
